Dengue cases are increasing everyday. A total of 4,000 dengue patients have been hospitalised in 17 days of August, which marks a sharp rise compared to the last month.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 329 more dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Some 13 people died of dengue in August and 12 in July across the country, it added.
The DGHS data also shows that over 100 dengue patients were hospitalised everyday for 24 consecutive days till Sunday and over 200 for 14 consecutive days till Saturday.
A total of 306 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 23 was outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday, according to the DGHS data.
A total of 1048 people diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 66 outside the capital, it said.
Dengue fatalities are increasing day by day across the country as 26 deaths from the Aedes mosquito borne-disease have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.
The unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 36 people have so far died of dengue disease in the country this year.
A total of 6,650 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country, including in Dhaka city since January until August 17 this year.
According to the DGHS data, 1,405 dengue cases were detected across the country from January 1 to December 31, 2020. The IEDCR confirmed seven deaths from dengue last year.
More than one lakh dengue patients were hospitalised and around 179 people died of the mosquito borne-disease in the country in 2019.
Meanwhile, speaking at health bulletin of the DGHS, its spokesperson Dr Nazmul Islam on August 8 said the dengue situation has started rising since May this year and the rising trend is still continuing.
He said the health directorate also has already instructed the hospitals across the country about treatment of the dengue patients.
Nazmul Islam also asked people to test dengue and coroanvirus at a time, if the common symptom fever is found.
However, the DGHS also feared that the number of dengue infection cases may increase in the current August month than the last month July.
The DGHS sources said the government hospitals of the country have opened dengue units to ensure proper treatment for the patients.
“We’ve asked the authorities to prepare teams for the dengue units and carry out dengue treatment as per updated treatment guidelines of the dengue disease. The hospital authorities have also been asked to pay special attention to pregnant women and children who are infected with dengue,” Dr Afsana Alamgir Khan, deputy programme manager of Malaria and Aedes Transmitted Diseases Control Programme of the DGHS told the Daily Sun recently.
Dr ASM Alamgir, principal scientific officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said, “People should remain alert to dengue particularly during this rainy season. The dengue situation may take an alarming turn anytime if people don’t maintain guidelines in this regard and control the vector of the disease.”
